Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was the perfect summer read I was craving. It truly brought me back to the time I attended summer camp after telling my mom I was bored after school had just ended. I was put back into the headspace of the little girl who just wanted to make new friends and learn new things.

Setting

Adirondack Mountains

Summer Camp located on the Van Laar Preserve

Plot

This book switches between several point of views, threading through different timelines, but focusing on the main plotline of Barbara Van Laars dissapearance in August 1975. Barbara, a thirteen year old camper just so happens to be the camp owners daughter. While you are trying to figure out what happened to her, you are also learning about the dissapearance of her older brother Bear fifteen years prior. Read and explore the many layers of family drama and hidden secrets. Two siblings from the same family dissapear—who is guilty?

Overall Thoughts

I enjoyed reading this book and I finished it quite fast. Something about it was so nostalgic for me and I read the entire thing outside, which enhanced my experience. This book truly puts you into the woods and brings you into the lives of the many charachters it follows from main charachter Barbara to the lead investiagtor in her missing persons case. You are in the past—you are in the present and it is a crazy and complex ride until the very last page. At first, I stuggled to follow and keep track of the different years and charachters, but after getting further in to the books plot, I was really able to dive in and that ending—shook. This book was so complictaed in a good way and I loved it. This is a great read for anyone who has ever been to a summer camp or simply, just loves a twisty mystery with a well thought-out plot. This was my first Liz Moore book, but it will not be my last.
